- However, Aimen Dean, who left the terrorist organisation almost 20 years ago, has said that Ireland is "rather naive" to think that the country is safe.
Dean was an early member of al-Qaeda but he changed sides in 1998 and became a spy for Britain's security and intelligence services, MI5 and MI6.
He chose to leave the organisation after the US embassies in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam were bombed, where 12 Americans and more than 200 local people were killed.
